Croft Institute

Favouritized By

When it comes to eccentricity and weirdness, Croft Institute is in a world of its own. Smack in the middle of Chinatown yet hidden deeply at the end of an alley off an alley, the location of the lab-themed bar has never failed to get punters wondering if they are heading down the right graffiti-laden path.
The soon to be three year old bar is decked out like a 1930’s science laboratory mixed with a clinical hospital twist, with racks of test-tubes, beakers and even antique wheelchairs for decor. A rickety set of stairs takes you upstairs where the Departments of Male and Female Hygiene loom in the dark ahead. Albeit creepy and undoubtedly eerie, the toilets are a must-see for any visit to the Institute. Just in case you were wondering, there is no Dr Croft, he’s a conception from owner Shane Hurt’s imagination.
Croft draws an unpretentious urban-cool crowd out for a good time making it one of Melbourne’s coolest hidden secrets.
