All I can say is wow, stumbled accross this place on a night out by accident. I was intrigued by the line outside which didnt take too long to move along and was helped by the lovely and cute girl on the door.
Once inside it only got better, gorgeous first floor, then once up the stairs and urban oasis awaited me!
Great drinks, amazing staff so nice and totally uppretentious!!
A great place, Ill be back!
The Red Hummingbird is a nifty little bar that opened eight weeks ago on Russell St, near the corner of Lonsdale. Like many quasi-hidden city bars, TRH has no obvious signage - look for the swinging red birdcage suspended about the door and walk up a flight of stairs.
When I visited the bar on a Tuesday it was quiet, but the bar staff were very friendly and the wine list had some good choices. The open fireplace will be a welcome boon once winter really kicks in, and the wall covered in wallpaper with a red hummingbird motif is a cute touch.
Be sure also to climb up the second flight of stairs and check out the rooftop deck, where there's beer on tap on busier nights and retro woven hanging chairs. The plated glass wall both provides a nice view of the QV building and shelters the deck from the wind. Once word of mouth about this place gets around, the Red Hummingbird ought to become quite the cosy little venue of choice for discerning hipsters.
