Spicy Fish Restaurant

We are eating in and taking away from SPICY FISH for at least one year and at all times the food is very well cooked and the premises are very clean and inviting.
In particular I suffer of mild ulcer and I am happy that any food I have ordered from SPICY FISH was very good and made me feel healthy.
My daughter is a vegan and again the dishes at SPICY FISH are matching her requirements. The staff and the management are very well mannered and ready to adjust any food in accordance with our requirements.
Over all every time we come to Melb, and that happens every fortnight we don't think twice and go to eat at SPICY FISH as we know the food is guaranteed to be fantastic!
I cannot believe the amount of negative reviews, we have been going to Spicy Fish since it's opening and the food is fantastic!
Sure some of it's spicy but what is the name?
I think this is authentic Sichuan cooking, if you want it westernised go somewhere else!
I went to this restaurant about 2 years ago when they first opened.
It was one of the worst Chinese restaurants I've been to!
Not much taste at all!!
Spicy Fish was recommended by a friend who was raving on about how great the food was. I thought I would test out the restaurant in Glen Waverley only because I love SPICY food and it was recommended by a friend. We ordered Fish head soup which had no flavour, fried beans with minced pork in sezchuan sauce and the beans tasted like rubber and sezchuan sauce was more like burnt garlic, fried soft crab was disgusting I think Mc Donalds is even better and I hate Mc Donalds. I had asked the manager for freshly chopped chilli and he said that due to store policy we can't provide fresh CHILLIES because it's too expensive! I was furious, afterall I eat out alot and no restaurant has refused to serve fresh chillies, this is the first restaurant I have encountered. My overall experience was bad, I felt unwelcomed by the manager and the service mainly by the manager was very upsetting and rude. I will never go back there and I will pass the words around.
we had the misfortune of dining at Spicy fish and this is probably the worst chinese restaurant i've been to. the food was inedible and it was a total rip-off.
I have been I regular at spicy fish since coming to Melbourne in October last year.
While searching for the address to give friends yesterday, I came across the rather disturbing reviews below.
I know how brilliant the food is and after reading the review, I cancelled my booking for 6 and went there to check out the situation myself. I guess that I wasn’t about to give up on the best Chinese food I’ve ever had that easily. In any case not much would survive among all that chilli …
Any way I talked to the manager about the health issues and he admitted they had a ‘problem’ but assured me that the restaurant now closed early each night to implement the new hygiene regime.
The food was stunning as usual, here is a photo of the Szechwan soft shell prawn I took on my first ever meal there. If it looks hot its because it is. You don’t eat the chilli but the Szechwan peppers are amazing, sort of a cross between pepper and cocaine !
I will keep going there but have a careful eye on the kitchen…
see article in the age newspaper today, 7 december 2007, www.theage.com.au, where they said .... AN AUSTRADE agent and his company have been fined a total of $40,000 after mice, cockroaches and a pest faeces were found in his city restaurant.
Health officers found an accumulation of food waste, dirt and grease on pots, pans, cooking utensils and crockery at the Spicy Fish restaurant in Melbourne's Target Centre in Bourke Street.
still want to eat there?
google its food safety records. Inspectors found mice, cockroaches and food gunk everywhere. Never eating there again. Unbelievable. I feel sick already...
This restaurant has both the best chinese and the best fish dish I have ever tasted... in the same bowl! The Spicy Fish is a really incredible dish, but unlike the previous reviewer I didn't find that it stuck around until the next morning.
The Spicy Fish has a beautiful burn to it with flavourful, melt in the mouth fish which still stays together in the dish. The best thing I found though was that within 10 minutes of eating the burn had all but subsided. I have no idea how they do it, but I will return to this restaurant every time I visit Melbourne.
Those with a severe masochistic streak might like to try the Spicy Fish soup from this Szechwan restaurant in Chinatown. Served in a big bowl of oil, with bits of fish, bean sprouts, szechuan pepper and mountains of chilli, it definitely looks dangerous. After just a few mouthfuls, the endorphins start kicking in sending a mad rush of blood to the head, giving a nice dizzy feeling. The natural high is probably the body’s natural defense mechanisms are probably trying to alleviate the scorching feeling from the tastebuds. No joy without pain as they say.. and the pain in this case lasts all the way till the next morning.
