Catherine Manuell Designs

Read about you in the Age today, most impressed. Love your range. From country so haven't seen you before, will be on look out next time in Melbourne. May I suggest you also do small diaries. Very hard to find in handbag, always either black or red, and rarely red. Do so agree with you about colour. Jenny
What colour is your luggage bag? If it’s black, blue or gray, then you’ve probably at some time accidentally grabbed someone else’s bag off the baggage belt only to realise that it wasn’t yours. Melbourne bag and accessory designer Catherine Manuell decided that bland travel bags just didn’t cut it, and seven years ago began experimenting with loud daring prints like metallic, rose and leopard spots.
Learning millinery (hat-making) from her Grandmother formed the root of her fashion designer career. She brought her hats to her favourite shops and before you know it, they were stocking her designs. She moved on to designing scarves and now ten years later, Catherine is making bags that stand out defiantly from the rest.
Her inspiration comes from everyday stimulations - the colours around her, the street and the people around her. Her favourite colour is red in all its shades, reflected in the generous splashes of colour in her work.
This February, Catherine Manuell Designs launched their new men’s range so that they could finally match up with equally funky luggage bags. Colour isn’t the only thing that Catherine experiments with. Future designs will incorporate a unique range of textures other than the usual canvas or leather. Enough with the boring bland basics and bring on the life!
